Default Blacked..... - 2nd April 2017, 08:41 AM

So after a brief stint in an Audi TT RS, I decided to reduce my car running costs and find a fun car once more - while the TT was quick, it was just too serious and devoid of feedback.

So this Mini turned up at the local Mini dealership, 1 owner, only 32k and well specced. After a quick test drive and taking a 7k hit on the TT (only depreciated by 1k a month smile:, I was sold. So much feedback, character, eagerness, great turn it, burbly exhaust, just a lot of fun coupled with great economy

A brief spec is as follows -

- Mini JCW in midnight black / black alloys.
- Leather interior
- Heated seats
- Heated windscreen
- Panoramic sunroof
- Interior light pack
- Xenons

Plus all the usual JCW bits and bobs

So the short term plans are :

- Replace interior bulbs with LEDs (ordered)
- Reg plate, driving lights, side indicators for LEDs. (ordered)
- Metal pressed plates
- Tint the spotlights / foglights (undecided whether to go black or yellow)
- Dechrome the headlight and rear lights using plastidip (ordered)
- Stubby aerial (ordered)

Medium - long term plans

- Bilstien Coilovers
- Replace runflats for Mich Supersport 4s
- Drilled front discs with EBC yellowstuff pads
- Breathing mods / meth cooling / stage 1 map
- Walnut blasting of the N18 lump as they're prone to excessive carbon buildup

Have to say having used these a number of years ago, I forgot quite how blue they are, they may be changed for silver visions sooner rather than later.

Had a crack at the paint this evening.

2 stage correction, Meguiars correction MF / correction compound, followed by Chemical Guys Hexalogic black finishing pad / Meguiars 205.

Will see what it looks in direct sunlight tomorrow.....

Take your surrounds to a body shop and get them CC'd in your exact colour.
Plastidip is absolutely awful and looks cheap af.

Mini deserves more.

Agree, get the 'chrome' light surrounds painted by a bodyshop in the colour of your choice. Plastidip is dreadful.

I wasn't aware that the N18 was as prone to coking as the N14. In just over 3 years and 32k miles my oil catch can has collected about 3 femtolitres of oil/water and will be removed in the next few days.

welcome.
saw this on DW.
N18 is a great engine, gave mine a right bashing and never let me down in 30k miles.
my previous n14 was a bag of nails..
I love plasti dip and tbh it wont chip like normal paint. each to their own i have done both
