Default Mini extended warranty on 2013 JCW. - 19th April 2017, 02:47 PM

Hi Guy's,
So, I purchased my 2013 FJCW last May and I have just received a letter from Mini
asking if I'd like to extend my warranty for an extra 12 months.

They are asking for 750 for fully comprehensive cover which covers just about everything and that includes a zero excess on claims up to the value of the car.

Considering that some people have said the 2nd gen Mini's are not that reliable, would you consider getting the extended warranty?

I've saved up the 750 so that's not an issue, I have 17,500 miles on the clock
and I change the oil every 12 months and do 5,000 miles a years.

What's your opinion here fellas?

Have you had any issues that might make you think it's a lemon?
I had such a pain getting warranty items on my GP that it just wasn't worth the effort of fighting any more for the warranty I'd be paying for.

That 750 would cover most problems at specialist should they arise, if they don't, you're quids in.

I was in exac same dilemma will be 3yrs ago on Dec. Like you I debated but I knew with a n14 late 2011 fjcw most of the known issues were covered. I went intially for the lower monthly cost but the excess just incase I didn't need it's that better the devil you know. If you have a good indo your confident could fix any issues that would arise then it's up to you but in my case I didn't so that's what swung it for me in the end. So glad I did continue it as less than a year in I had to christen for a release bearing & backing plate between clutch flywheel & gearbox. Exac 11 months later I had full clutch replaced incld the other parts replaced second time as they wouldn't do as was within normal tolarwnces all under warranty. Thankfully second time I bit the bullet & paid more a month & no excess just in time. So for me personally yes it was worth it & got my money worth bck on the full clutch as that would have cost 2-3k so I know I've not paid that in premiums
I know don't begrudge the 70 going out each month now

Here's my old thread asking the question - Extend sapphies warranty or not - HELLLLLP & advice needed pls

I've had no issues, but I'm kinda paying for 'peace of mind' if I'm honest.
She runs great, so I've no reason to think I'll need the warranty, you just never know though do you.

750 for a bullet proof warantty, personally i would as Minis are big bucks when they go wrong, and check as i think they are transferable if you sell the car so plus point if you sell up

We are moving into our second year cover with MINI warranty on our Roadster. After calling on the extended warranty on our previous 2013 Countryman when it suffered with an EGR failure, it just took one call with MINI breakdown assistance (covered in the warranty with home start, national recovery, free courtesy car and hotel accommodation) and everything got sorted without any issues. I didn't bother with any of the third part warranty companies where they wriggle out to avoid paying out.

Yup, it's nice to know it's there just in case.
I suppose it's a bit like buying medical insurance for your car!
Hmm, mind you, I don't have medical insurance...
