Nic,
Max5 championship is good.. race prepped cars are cheap, and it is a fantastic series to be in as there are huge grids (that'll soon teach you race craft!) I've not looked into it, but you might be able to enter a Mini in something like Sport or Hot Hatch which is run by the 750MC? 750MC racing is always good value for money. Dunlop Sport Maxx is still a good series that's finally getting off it's feet, however the competition isn't as great, especially with the 3 classes all battling it out on the same grid. If you are content with going down the Sport Maxx route in a Cooper S Works, i have a 2009 spec MINI Challenge car available that is in excellent condition and ready to race. It's only done a few rounds this year so is very fresh.

Kosta: Ma5da 5 is the one with full grids last year whereas max5 had very little most rounds. The max5 champ allows 1.8 and 2.0 MX5 which doesn't really make it even field tbh.

Just depends how much of a logistical nightmare it becomes.. trying to be in 3 or 4 places at once is almost impossible lol.

I can put you in touch with a team that are running Club cars in the Challenge this year. Arrive and drive packages are available and if you`re only thinking of doing Club class for a year before moving on to something else then this IS the best way to go.

if i do the arrive and drive i still have to pay the entry fee(£7500) so its still the same(apart from at the end of the year i end up with nothing, paid a lot of money, been racing but dont even have anything to show at the end of it,at least if i go it alone i have the car at the end of the year, which is mine)i have the money to buy the club class car and pay the entry fees and then a little left over, but not much so if i have a crash etc(which im sure i will im stuffed)i guess i should just DO IT,ive never worried b4 about where the money will come from but im just thinking i dont want to start something i cant finish,(if only i could find a little help from a sponser, but who will sponser a nobody, nobody) but i am just thinking that for my first year the cost of the entries is a bit over the top,i have to pay the fee all up front at the start of the year,so worst case i do the first meeting and think i may have made the wrong choice, thats the entry fee gone in one go,if they would let me pay per round or in installments like the sport maxx do i,d be in,straight away, but they wont. I even went to look at a caterham on sunday(classic,it took 2 hours each way and it was a right nail)i also went on tuesday and looked at a super, they are a little more to buy but the entry is only around £300 per meeting and tyres are cheap and they also can only use 3 sets per year and also they will run pump fuel,so all have advantages over the mini challenge, but WORST part is i was set on a Mini. |

If you factor in the costs of maintaining the car between meetings, running costs(tyres, fuel, brake pads etc) depreciation, getting the car to and from meetings (so you`ll need a trailer) and the hassle of selling it afterwards there`s really not much difference between "arrive and drive" and owning and running it yourself. Most teams will allow you to pay in installments and usually include the entry fees in this as they will have entered the car rather than a specific driver. If I was starting my first year of racing now I`d do "arrive and drive" with a team. Also you`d benefit from their experience with how to set up the car(critical) and hopefully some driver coaching as well which will improve your racing so much quicker than if you just guess these things. I suppose it comes down to how much hassle you want with the car between meetings and how long you`re going to keep the car.
