Default Mini one diesal problem - 26th December 2014, 04:44 PM

Had my new mini now 8 weeks. From about the 4 week a noise has developed from the back passenger wheel area (spasmodic). It happens when you accelerate from a low speed and sounds like a metal vibrating noise. If you stop when you go the area mentioned and put you hand over the back of the back wheel area it is hot with a smell and then you hear a metal cooling down noise??? It has been back to the dealership who stripped the wheel all down and could find nothing and when road tested of course it didn't make the noise! Help any ideas????

Sure it's not the heat shields coming into contact with the exhaust, which will give noise whilst accelerating. Also on the Gen3 the exhaust is on the left side, so under the passenger rear.
Also you will hear the metal of the exhaust cooling down, especially if it's been driven hard or for a long period of time.
Will always be warmer in the area of the exhaust.
