It's pretty typical over here, and the cost is even included in a typical company car leasing deal, but if you're paying yourself, it's cheaper than taking a taxi both ways...

Varies from dealer to dealer.
If its warranty work then there should be no charge, if its servicing then thats dependant on the dealer, some charge to cover the insurance only, some for the car itself.

kinda depends whats happening to your car - in my experience they would cover the cost if its warranty work but if its a service visit etc etc you will have to pay...
its for the insurance cover for you using the car - i was told that if your covered under your own insurance you can let them know and you dont have to pay the fee... BUT thats just as it happened for me... £10 isnt bad either - mine was £19 and i think has just gone up a little too... not that ive taken my car to BMW for a while now as they broke it last time it was there...

I got quoted £15 p/day but then the service manager waived the fee...
as an aside be sure to check the car for bumps dents and scratches rims ect. as you would a a regular hire car, I founf loads of dings on my courtesy car and I had to check and the guys made a note if I hadnt checked there wouldnt of been any record of the damage already on the car.

hehethey should only want the same amount of fuel left in it as when you got it - if they just want a full tank tell them to jog on....

I think I know why you might have to pay. From what I can understand, MINI dealerships have certain cars that are just used for courtesy cars, and you fill in a courtesy car form. But they also have other cars that can be 'loaned' out - which is why you have to pay.
What has made me think this is, when I booked my car in for service issues I got a courtesy car of a Cooper Convertible - filling in a courtesy car form. I then booked it in again, but got a loan car of a Cooper S - filling in a car loan form. The forms were obviously different, and one involved paying £10 a day and the other did not. I didn't have to pay the £10 as the service I was having done was free of charge because of a dealer mess up last time. Hope that makes a little bit of sense!
