Default Anyone experimented with tyre pressures? - 11th January 2017, 05:57 AM

When I picked our new (used) car up a few days ago. The pressures were set to 32 psi. It wasn't until I looked on the door shut I noticed it should be 39 front 35 rear. So I made the adjustment and the car feels terrible. Very unplanted ,Skipping about on undulating roads and not tracking true. I readjusted to 34psi all round and things are much better. BTW 18" run flats fitted. I know there will be comments about ditching run flats, But I can't help thinking 39 psi is high. I run with run flats on my BMW 4 series and th front are no where near 39 psi.

Thoughts please,

If you feel they run better at lower pressure then run them lower. They could well be a different brand of tyre to what the car was originally designed with etc. I have never stuck to the recommended pressures and always adjusted to how it feels.

I had a similar experience picked up the car from the dealers and it was running 2.3bar of pressure pumped it up to 3.1bar at the front and 2.9 at the rear as per the sticker, I double checked it was correct because I thought that was really high.

Went for a long 150 mile journey and it felt strange driving for the first 20 miles or so and then just got used to it.

My old M3 with 19"s needed 2.4 bar all round, maybe something to do with the run flats I suppose.

39 front and 35 rear? I've been messing about recently with pressures but my door shut says completely different pressures. 18 inch run flats here too.

mine says 45 front and 42 rear, you should try and run them at that lol

I topped mine up on friday last week to 3.1 bar front and 2.9 rear did a quick on the OBC and its showing 2.7 front and 2.5 rear.

Does that sound right? or are people finding there tyre pressure system giving false readings?

Mine reads 2 psi low than a few accurate gauges I have. My 4 series also read 2 psi lower.

Good to know, never had TPMS in any of my previous cars so always wondered how good they were.
