DIY Guide - Fitting JCW grille & surrounds (inc photos and part numbers)

Hope this helps someone.

I have swapped my chrome grille for a JCW aero version and kept the chrome surrounds. This guide would also work for swapping/removing the chrome surrounds as well.

Part 1

The part number shown in the pictures is for a swap for a cooper/one. A list of all relevant part numbers is below:-

R55/56 MINI One/Cooper (inc Clubmans)

JCW Aero Grille - 51 11 0 404 122
JCW Aero Grille/Brackets for spot lights 63 13 0 422 708
JCW Aero Black Upper Surround 51 13 0 417 134
JCW Aero Black Lower Surround 51 13 0 417 137

R55/R56 Cooper D/Cooper S (inc Clubmans)

JCW Aero Grille 51 11 0 442 012
JCW Aero Grille/Brackets for spot lights 63 13 0 422 706
JCW Aero Black Upper Surround 51 13 0 417 135
JCW Aero Black Lower Surround 51 13 0 442 011

Do please confirm this is correct with your dealer when ordering.

The Cooper S and D have a slightly different placing of catches on the grille but the method is the same.

Part 1 - Grille and lower surround.

First push down the end clips of the lower surround to release it by pulling forward.

Next, carefully prise the four expandable catches. I used a blunt edged knife. You need to place it between the first and second parts as shown in pic and gently prise it a little before carefully pulling out entire catch.

Press four small catched exposed at bottom of grill sideways to release the main grille section.

Place new grille in position and re-insert and slide the four lower catches so held in place.

Push four catches at top back in place to secure in position.

Replace lower surround and make sure end catches back up tight. I found the new grill a tight fit and had to gently prise apart slightly as i pushed surround into place.

Part 2 - Upper surround.

Part 2 is simply dealing with the removal/swapping of the upper surround.

1. Open bonnet and look under the surround.
2. You will see several clips holding the surround in place. Four of these have standard screws which need removing.
3. The black clips need to be gently squeezed to allow them to be pushed back out of the fixing holes. Do each one a little and then push up.
4. The surround should then be easily removed.
5. To replace just push back in to place carefully and replace and tighten screws.

Allow 15-20 mins for part 1 and 5 mins for part 2.

Any suggestions on how to make this guide easier/better please let me know.

Should hopefully help save someone from paying to have it done.
