Default Door rubbers marking clear coat - 22nd March 2015, 11:36 AM

When I first had my MCS, I noticed that on the inner door wells at the same height as the door handles, I had clear coat scuffing. I thought someone must have caught the sides when entering/exiting the car. So I applied some polish and it came out.

Well the marks came back a few months later and I didn't really think what might be causing it until I read a post on a German forum yesterday, it appears that the rubber on the door is scuffing the inside door well.

Any one else had this?

Yeah I've seen it. we are sorting it for our customers by having the door area repainted, and a protective vinyl put over the impacted area. along with new door seals.

I've just rubbed some black wow onto the rubbers to soften them up as they are quite rough.

Design fault?

I had it too in my Clubman. I didn't have it at the door handle end but at the other end where the hinge is, you could see the paint was getting marked when the door closed. The other stuff you could try is called gummi pfledge, here is a link to it being used to restore door seals on a Z3 website.
