Not sure what's in yur rea, but in the past with parts I couldn't find and looked like that, I found a chrome shop through a motorcycle shop and hd them replate them. They looked great .. and a good shop can bring them back to a brand new look.

If it’s genuine chrome you can have it cleaned and re plated if it’s plastic then surely a good sand and a paint?

There’s no real chrome anywhere on a mini!

I know as I removed all mine.... you could sand and paint or plastidip or wrap them if you like diy..... or there are places that can chrome dip plastic, you’ll have to google to see what’s about in your area.

Yeah you’d need to split the mesh apart i guess which makes it pretty pointless...... have you asked Cotswold mini parts on here to see if they can order you a nice new set?

I hadn’t seen the mesh until you pointed it out.... replacing them is probably your only option if you want them to remain chrome.

Are you saying this just because the parts are plastic?

Chrome plating onto plastic is just as 'real' as chrome plating onto metal. It's still real chrome, it's just on a different base material.

It's a nonsense to say that chrome plated plastic parts are not real chrome.

to dechroming. Keep it Chrome and Classy

Are mini parts actually chrome plated Melvyn? I presumed (perhaps wrongly) that they are chrome painted which is an effect like chrome plating but will just peel off like in the pictures above.

I didn’t think anything was real chromium plated these days as it never seems to last as above....I stand totally corrected if mini have splashed out and actually plated the plastic parts!

I don't pretend to be an expert but, yes, all shiney plastic parts really are chrome plated.

I've never heard of real chrome paint, but paint would not give a mirror finish like chrome plating does. If the chrome peels off it is due to bad preparation (the same as peeling paint).

The process of electroplating plastic parts was invented in the 60s. It is more complicated than electroplating metal parts because a layer of conducting material first has to be fused onto the surface of the plastic to conduct the current. It's a complicated multi-stage process. But I suppose the vast majority of chrome plating today is now done onto plastic.
