Default Mini r50 tuning - 1st January 2018, 06:45 PM

Evening guys, anyone tried the ďchipsĒ from eBay for the power boost of 30-40bhp claimed?

Iíve found a site called Tuning Wizard who sell them for £40 and wondered if itís any good

Or should the Bluefin tuning be the option?

Cheers

Can't say anything about the "chips" from eBay or Tuning Wizard, but did have a Blufin on my One.

Made a big difference on the One especially above 4000rpm.

Have you got a Cooper or a One - I think those sort of gains relate to a One, as it's a 'detuned' Cooper giving 90bhp against 115bhp.

If the car is a ONE then a decent map is a big benefit. Bluefin was always good, and there are other reputable dealers too, but I wouldn't touch a £40 Ebay special. Getting it wrong is expensive!

Also worth considering the gearbox in your car, is it a pre facelift with a Midlands box? If so these aren't the most reliable even without the extra power. Post facelift Getrag is usually ok.

Then you'll get a decent increase in power. For me personally I'd be choosing a tried and tested manufacturer like Superchips & their Bluefin product for peice of mind.

The new box is a big plus, but be aware that the extra power is a risk with it.

The power from a superchips blufin flash is not going to cause any bother with the gearbox.

Other than the blufin, get a Janspeed exhaust mani and a decent cat back - im a massive fan of the playmini one - sounds very good with a mani.

I'm so tempted to buy another R50 as a daily - theyre just so fun thrashing the nuts off them everywhere.

Yeah, possible option, but I really like the Cooper Iíve got, the sound is fantastic and itís already swift, plus looks great with the bits Iíve done on it and with the spotless bodywork and low mileage, Iím a bit loathe to get rid
