Hi I have just purchase a Mini Cooper s jcw in red and black
It's is a 2.0 turbo diesel
I have a question
I have noticed occasionally heard my electric fan coming on when I have stopped on short or long journeys is this ok ? It stops on for upto 20monutes is this a problem ?
What is the average fuel economy on this engine ?
Look forward to your comments

Welcome to tM! The sound of the electric fan relates to the 'forced' process in burning the diesel soot in the Diesel Particle Filter (DPF) and it's perfectly normal in modern diesel engines. It tends to happen if you make a lot of short journeys which prevents the exhaust from heating enough to burn the soot, click the link below which provides more details. If you do make short journeys my suggestion is to take it for a high speed run (at least 60mph) for 30 minutes each week to help burn the soot.

On fuel consumption, from lows 40s mpg to mid 50s mpg but this all depends on your driving style, type of roads, the fuel you use and how often the 'forced' process happens with your DPF as it uses fuel to burn the soot. For your type of diesel engine (N47) its best to use the high premium diesel, with this type of fuel we average low 50mpg.
