UJ Fitting R53 bonnet in rear of R50 Mini One? - 9th October 2017, 09:22 PM

Hi everyone.

I have a 2005 Mini One (R50) and am hoping to pick up a Cooper S (R53) bonnet this Friday to fit over the weekend.

My question is this: Can you fit a R53 bonnet into the rear of a R50 Mini?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Terry

Welcome to tM. With the size and shape of the bonnet, it's going to be difficult to fit into the cabin. I would also worry in damaging the trim with the attempt. I would borrow or hire a small van to collect it.

I can now confirm that although the R53 bonnet can fit in the rear of a Mini R50, it was an understandable very tight squeeze with the passenger seat having to be completely down and the drivers seat a notch or two closer to the steering wheel than my usual setup. I drove 300 miles like this and the bonnet and my interior were both in excellent shape afterwards, so it isn't an impossible task.

However, job now done so hopefully I won't find (or put) myself in this position again

Thank you for that Blowfishes. I've been on the lookout for one myself, possibly saved a bit of money on van hire

Very well done on managing to transport it. Although a long way to collect a bonnet it will look very smart.

... once I have got someone to align the bonnet properly and I manage to find a scoop that actually fits 😄

Just read your other post and strange that the scoop doesn’t fit.
