Default Really dumb question - 8th July 2018, 10:27 AM

So, I am new to new minis. I recently purchased a Mini Cooper S JCW for a great price from a friend.

I have no idea what JCW I have!

I have figured you could buy a standard Mini and add a JCW pack, then there is a JCW with a turbo and one with a supercharger. One seems to be about 190hp and one seems to be about 211hp.

Which do I have? How do I tell? It's a 2007 1600cc model LOL

Default Jcw - 9th July 2018, 07:07 PM

Thanks for this. I tried the VIN decoder and it only lists it as a cooper S, no mention of being a JCW. I looked under the bonnet ond on the rocker cover it has a sticker saying John Coooper Works Tuning kit number: R56804632.

Does this mean the JCW part was retrofitted?

2007 will make it a gen 2 turbo car, R56 hatch.

So in the 2nd gen cars there were two JCW options;

1) A factory built Cooper S with a dealer fit 192bhp JCW kit (I believe this was the only option in 2007) - This was known as a Cooper S JCW 192.
2) A factory built JCW model with 211bhp (Launched in 2008) - This is a MINI JCW

A few identifiers to help you with yours.

A Cooper S JCW will retain it's Cooper S badge on the rear, & on the side scuttles. Likely a Cooper S badge on the right & a JCW badge on the left. There will be no JCW marking inside either. Car will have standard brakes on the front, unless they've been upgraded by a previous owner & the tail pipes will be etched with the JCW logo.

A factory JCW will have no markings on the back except the JCW badge on the right hand side. The side scuttles is standard will be a plain chrome with no badging. The dash will be have a small JCW emblem on the far left, this isn't a logo more of a checker type thing. The front brakes will be red Brembo items. The tail pipes aren't etched if I recall correctly.

Think this is correct, we owned both but it's been a while.

2007 you got both generations as we had a 1st gen 2007 with supercharger and I thought they where the one you got the jcw kit for as we nearly got a kit for ours, but got the extra power with other mods

Give your local dealer a call if you are unsure but it will say on your V5 docs

So mine is exactly how you describe the Cooper S JCW All in order and match the JCW Tuning Kit number. So I have a Cooper S JCW 192 BHP, as I thought, thanks so much

Ah yes I forgot the dealer fit kit should have a kit number and certificate, schoolboy error.
