C2i Giles - Ben's 1990 Rover Mini - 6th March 2015, 10:46 PM

I have wanted another Classic for a while now, and yesterday I finally took the plunge and picked up this little beauty - so I now have old and new

It is a 1990 Mini City E I believe. It is generally very tidy for its age, but as of all Mini's of this age is had had some bits replaced and also a few bits and pieces needing tidying, nothing unexpected though! It's currently at the garage to have an MOT test tomorrow - hopefully won't need too much doing considering it's only done around 1,000 miles since its last test

Hopefully be able to enjoy it over summer and take it along to a few of the shows later in the year *:yahoo:

So a little update on this. It's sadly failed its MOT on high hydrocarbons. Garage has been through and adjusted the carb and timing and it now kicks out a load of blue smoke from the exhaust and has low compression on cylinders 1 & 2

Looking like it might need an engine rebuild. London to Brighton might be in the new MINI instead now

As some of you might already know, L2B didn't go particularly well for me in the Classic - ended up like this on the side of the A303:

Ended up being towed all the way home by the AA and rushing back up in the F56 to do the run. Was bitterly disappointed after spending the previous week and a half changing the engine and managing to get the Mini to pass its MOT on the Saturday morning.

But good news is here - we seem to be back up and successfully running again. Going to use it for the next few days to give it a proper test. Hopefully I will be attending Beaulieu in it this year

Giles has been a little busy over the last few weeks. Back in June he had a day out with a load of other classic Mini's at Beaulieu Mini Cooper Day.

And this past weekend he went and hung out at the Retro Fundraising event, which is a local show to me to raise money to support disabled children in Somerset. It is a great little show which has grown year on year.

This time around we had around 57 classic Mini's and over 300 classic cars overall zooming through the Somerset Countryside and then park up for the Retro show afterwards. Was a great day out and Giles performed perfectly throughout

Been making the most of no rain today and did a couple a jobs to Giles. First task was fixing the exhaust bracket which decided to randomly snap whilst pulling off the driveway....

A little video of his exhaust, sounds pretty sweet

Then finally got around to using the black rattle cans I bought months ago and sprayed the door cards, changing from the previous dirty grey to black to match the dashboard and carpets. Really happy with how they have come out for very little money

And a little snap of him a while back in nicer weather.
