Default Mini 1275GT new addition to my mini family - 19th May 2016, 05:44 PM

After many years of looking and traveling around the country in search for a half decent Mini 1275GT I managed to find one that with a little bit of TLC will be just right.
I had a 270 mile journey drive to bring it back home and other than not being able to hear when I got home (the exhaust was so so loud) the car was faultless.
I have ordered a new exhaust, additional engine stabiliser and gear lever roll pins which I will be fitting tomorrow.
The reaction and attention it gets is really amazing, I have added a few photos more will follow once I get it exactly how I want it.

The only "classic" mini that I like. I just love the front end on them. Nice find!

Looks great. Much more space to work on the car than the standard roundnose

The exhaust wasn't a straightforward job but after a few adaptions got it fitted it now sounds good but not so loud, thought I would check the rear brakes while it was up on axle stands and it wasn't good news, I have ordered new brake back plates (old ones are badly corroded) handbrake linkages wheel cylinders and new brake drums, I am also going to replace the rear wheel bearings while I have it all stripped down. I also discovered that the front engine mounting has had its day so will be changing that as well.
I have a question that I would welcome advice on, did 1979 Mini GT's have rear fog lights fitted, they are not required legally before the 1st April 1980?

Update
After carrying out a few more running repairs (replacing head gasket, reinstating single carb, replacing gear change pins) and changing the bonnet back to its original colour I took the Mini for its MOT.
I have never seen so much time spent carrying out a MOT (1 hour 15 mins) the testers used a screwdriver to prod all round the car and then I got the bad news.
Failed on the following:-
Suspension support seriously corroded (now replaced )
Steering rack gaiter split (now replaced)
Shock absorber has a light misting of oil (now replaced)
Tie bar / rubber deteriorated but not resulting in excessive play (now replaced)
Front subframe mounting deteriorated has excessive play (now replaced)
Rear Subframe mounting prescribed area has excessive corrosion (rear wheel arch)
Rear Subframe mounting prescribed area has excessive corrosion (outer sill)

I am taking the car in some time this week for the welding works, I can then get it MOT'd.

The task of trying to get the car back to its original spec continues and I had some good news when I managed to find a set of genuine Mini GT seats on ebay which after a 500 mile round trip are now in my possession and will be fitted once the welding is completed.

Nice. I had one of those - bored out to 1400, single Weber DOHC. The sound was fantastic!

After some major bodywork repairs (new floor, sills, boot floor, rear valance, rear subframe, and much more) the Mini is now back on the road, I am gradually getting it near to it's original look.

Lovely.
I had a Russet Brown 1275GT back in the mid 1980's, I loved it.
I'll have to try and find some old pictures of it.
