Icon8 Help please! Juddering while accelerating? - 19th August 2013, 06:29 PM

Hello!

I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to help me out with a little problem I seem to be having with my beautiful little mini recently..

Well, when I first got it it started juddering as I was going through the gears especially in 1st 2nd and 3rd.. Safe to say I took it back to the garage and they 'changed the spark plugs and connectors' and it seemed to be absolutely fine.

8 months has passed and its just started doing it again, im assuming if they did what they said they did that that wouldn't be the problem again? And it may be something a little more serious than changing the spark plugs again?

It is mainly as im accelerating so from about 5mph to 30mph, if I drive it smoothly and slowly it doesn't really do it as much but its when im accelerating quickly it does it. It feels like its struggling for power it will judder and then shoot off like it has been connected to some sort of energy that has given it a boost. An engine light did come on which in my handbook says its the emissions but I don't know if its just a general light for anything engine related?

Would be so so grateful of any help at all!!

Thankyou :-)

Could be the coil pack as my son had very similar sounding problem on his car a while back

could be a great many things, starved of air, sticky throttle, bad spark, starved of fuel. needs to be looked at by someone.

Ooooh okay! Are these issues really expensive? Going to take it to a garage tomorrow! Is it dangerous to drive?

dont think its dangerous unless it stalls in heavy traffic or something? coil pack mentioned is about 100 but it is a part that has limited life and really should be changed more often than it is. plugs can be bought cheap, as can air and fuel filters, ignition leads are not overly dear either.
depends whats up, might be something and nothing, if the garage says its gonna cost a bomb seek a second opinion, or go armed with someone who looks like they know about cars

a good diagnostic tool can tell you what your injectors etc are doing, and would read the engine management light you had, might point straight to the issue.

I'm only stressing about it because I have my MOT coming up next month would rather get it all fixed now before that. Thankyou so much for your help!

ok first easy check for your fella, pull the leads of the coil pack one by one and check for corroded pins, making sure they go back where they came from, then the wiring plug that runs into it.
very easy one to spot, if its corroded just clean em up a bit, takes about 2 minutes to check

I had this problem Juddering then would then pick speed up (misfire) Either coil pack, ignition leads or maybe even spark plugs Just as zirconmr2 suggested. My mate is a mini specialist and it turned out to be 2 ignition leads which are just a quick swap with the old ones. I also replaced the spark plugs and then it felt brilliant to drive again. Hope you get it sorted
