Default Alternator Belt - 1st August 2017, 06:22 PM

We've got a Mini One R56 in the household. It's a non-aircon car and the alternator belt is a short belt across only 2 pulleys ( i.e. no a/c compressor and no belt tensioner). I can't find anywhere selling the shorter belt only can find the longer one that also wraps around compressor and tensioner. Any suggestions welcome. Also as there is no tensioner a special tool is needed to get the new belt installed - this kinda winds the belt over the rim of the crank pulley. Where can I get this from. Cheers

Do Eurocarparts not do it when you put your number plate in?

Yep tried Europarts and they supplied the wrong (longer) belt for aircon fitted car.

Hi and welcome to tM. My suggestion is to contact James at Cotswold MINI, the site sponsor, I've found the prices he has quoted for original parts and accessories have been the cheapest.

Default Alternator Belt - 5th August 2017, 04:28 PM

Quick update - I managed to purchase a new short belt however my local BMW parts dept told me the "special tool" is only available to BMW dealers. I could attempt to use brute force to wind the belt around the crankshaft damper pulley but fear doing damage to it. Really need to have the special tool. Ideas anyone?
