Default Extended Warranty - 9th October 2017, 03:57 PM

Hi,
Whats the advice on this??, around £400 for 12 months, my F56 Cooper is coming up to 3 years old, and has no problem at all, so is it worth it.

Everyone one has personal experience and preferences on this ... like what kind of oil is best.

But I've come to believe if it hasn't had problems with proper maintenance and no know major issues from other owners .. why waste the money. I have a truck that I have maintained properly and is 12 years old .. and any money spent on extending the warrantee would have been wasted.

In retro .. I've had vehicles that should of had the warrantee, but sold as soon as I could to get rid of the headache.

It's 3 years old .. no problems .. only a 12 month extension ?
Is it really worth it ?

I purchased the additional warranty for my 2013 FJCW when the warranty it came with expired.
What you are basically paying for is peace of mind.
What you need to ask yourself is, 'do I feel lucky'?
'well, do you punk'? Sorry, I couldn't resist it!!!!

From what I've known about warrantees is:
* you are betting it will break
* they are betting it won't

Now if you don't take care of it per recommended services, the warrantee is usually invalid.
If you do take care of it per recommended services, usually nothing breaks.
Warrantees usually does not cover certain items since they are known to wear out, and by when.

Now warrantees never cover over 100,000 miles because they know the odds are to great, even if you do the service as recommended, you might need the coverage soon.

They are not in business because they haven't figured the odds when they will have to pay out.

Our thoughts too on this link. All depends how often you use and the mileage you cover, we cover a lot of miles with our jobs and we have the reassurance with the extended warranty having already used it. Even though we look after our MINIs and service them religiously, all parts suffer from wear/tear and eventual failure which happened to us on a relatively young MINI.

400 GBP for a year seems ....very expensive.
In Belgium we have a standard two year warranty and for an additional 600 eur i have a 3 year extended warranty (5 years totaly), Holland is even cheaper.i

Pretty much exac the same a well maintained & low mileage jcw as posted in the link I posted I hummed & harrerd & had no problems in the first 3yrs but glad I had as had my money’s worth in first two years since I extended with a part replace of clutch first year & 11months exac to the day after part replace they had to replace the whole lot on a 5yr old jcw at 25k so for me I well untrully got my return!!

As I also posted I’ve got an n14 & no Indy so was a must for me.

If you’ve got a really good Indy & not fussed about service history etc then it was suggested by other memebers put the ££ you’d put in the warranty into a savings account then it’s there if you need it.

It appears expensive at first but if you increase the excess the premiums lower, also, it includes comprehensive breakdown cover who provide a brilliant service: after our Countryman broke down on the side of my motorway with my wife behind the wheel on her own, they were with her within 20 minutes. They arranged everything from the courtesy car to arranging the repair with the local dealer.

Everything is expensive in the UK.
It's NOT called 'rip off Britain' for nothing.
