Default help with warranty on approved used - 26th October 2017, 03:07 PM

Hi all,

quick question....

our CM is at the dealer and they have just informed me the battery is dead and not taking a charge. I am within the approved used scheme and they have told me this isn't covered?

They want 260 quid lol.

I can fit my own battery for less than half that obviously, they mention coding is required but mine isn't stop/start or regen braking so I don't think thats the case....

Anyone know for sure?

Many thanks all.

Really shocked this isn't covered within the 100% approved used scheme though!

I think, if the battery needs to be coded, the negative battery lead
has an IBS (intelligent battery system) module attached?

thank you oakley guy....

i will check that tomorrow when i collect... i have made an enquiry to BMW UK... they believe it is covered unless its "wear & tear"..... which of course it probably is. I shall keep trying though as I believe any car bought from any approved used scheme from any marque should have a battery that lasts a year!

They are being mean by not covering the cost of replacement. They are the ones who inspected your MINI to say it is approved used and they should honour it as part of a goodwill if they feel the policy doesnít cover it. I would make a fuss especially with your length of ownership.

thanks ZF,... had to go back to the original selling dealer as opposed to where the work is being done.... but thankfully they have played ball. They are honouring the battery and coding.

While in, they are also replacing the boot gas struts and the water pump which had become very noisy

so very happy camper.

It took a bit of arguing but well done Mini and particularly SYTNER MINI of Slough.

7head - glad you got this sorted out under warranty. Have to say that my previous experience with Sytner on other brands has been very positive in terms of progressing and getting work carried out under warranty.

Now you can continue to enjoy your MINI experience.

Sytner Cardiff have been good with my '12 plate approved used Jcw as well.

They've replaced both the HP fuel pump and Timing chain tensioner under warranty, nothing to pay and a courtesy car both times. The car was bought Dec last year, had the pump in May and the Tensioner this week.

Service has been really good, but I do wish the car wasn't made out of cheese

I’m glad you managed to get all sorted. The water pumps were troublesome on the earlier models...they either squealed or attracted rust, our first Countryman suffered with the latter.

Mine made clacking sound like a pulley with bad bearings. I thought it was the alternator and related to my battery issue but turns out it was the water pump.

I reported that I have a sound I didnít like when I dropped the car off, but they rang and said they heard nothing. However, as they kept the car overnight the first start next day revealed it clearly and they replaced it immediately.

I presume the water pump is reasonably local to the alternator on the serpentine belt? Itís pretty cramped in there so it was hard to pin point the exact cause of the noise..... initially I thought it was chain and running gear which is pretty noisy on the earlier CM from my readings on here.
