From my BMW source.... new emission regulations officially begin on 1st September this year. Most petrol models don’t meet these new regulations and manufacturers will be heavily fined if they sell non compliant models built now and sold after 1st Sep as brand new but they can be sold as pre-reg/nearly new/demo/used. To prevent the fine, BMW/MINI are registering brand new built stock to sell as pre-reg and will be offered with low APR. BMW M3s/M4s are the first to be sold this way with a very tempting 0% APR offer.

Diesel models continue to be compliant but new BMW/MINI diesel engines being built now are receiving Ad Blue tanks.

How are they going to sort the petrols out? I imagine performance will be reduced!?

Performance will take a hammering. They’ve killed off the ALL4s from Clubman/Countryman petrol range (the same applies to X drive on the BMW side) and rumour is the JCW Clubman/Countryman will return as a front wheel drive only to lower the emissions. The configurator confirms the Clubman Cooper S and SD have been removed from the range leaving the Cooper/D only. You can only order diesel MINI models currently but the dealers are focusing on the used side of the market which hopefully should make residuals stronger.

The Ad Blue tanks on the diesel engines are a nightmare to manage and I’m not looking forward to it.

there is no hassel with ad blue managed to fill lorries and tractors for years with no problems, would be better with a tank under bonnet like screen wash as top of filler has crystals form with change in temp and wont do paint work any good, another reason to avoid diesels,if dealers are focusing on used sales explains why they haven't got back to us since Wednesday about our lights, after sales service does not exist, take it you can go to any mini dealer for warrenty work?

Boosh or however you spell the company have worked out how to get rid of the NOX emissions diesels produce which is awesome news! hopefully they bring that to the market soon,
I am very interested in the next generation MINIs (2021 onwards?) to see what engines they have, better hybrids hopefully. I can't see the full electric mini catching on here in the UK too quickly...

Apparently petrols are getting a particulate filter (similar to DPF) soon too - how very annoying lol

I just wanted to share some of the issues faced by my colleagues who own Audis/Mercedes where they have had problems with their Ad Blue injectors, sensors, pumps forcing their cars to go into limp mode. As you suggest, Iím going to start looking at alternative fuel models.

On your warranty claim, you can approach any dealer. Very poor service you are receiving there, my local dealer, Cotswold MINI Cheltenham, is brilliant and we never have to wait.

Some official videos from MINI on the targets. They’ve admitted CO2 levels will increase meaning higher road tax.

cleanliness is king with ad blue,do not use cans that have had fuel in,drinking water cans are ok,filler caps at smaller than fuel ones, most of the sensors and other things going wrong is down to contamination and dirt, fuel kills any thing to do with ad blue and spilage takes paint off,it is also a gift to garages to make money, never had any trouble with all the things I used to drive.

More info, all petrol model production is ceasing for the whole of June to revise the engines to include a Dust Particulate Filter (DPF). When JCW production is started next year, all models will only be offered with a sport auto box, the manual box will be dropped from the entire JCW range. BMW will be doing the same with their high performance models being only offered with a sport auto box.
