Default Help: Tyres and Diffuser - 15th March 2018, 01:47 PM

Hello

Couple of questions that I have, hopefully someone can help.

I have a slow puncture (nail) on the offside rear tyre on my R56 JCW hatch, it's currently running with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A 205/45R17 runflats. The rears are quite low, about 3-4mm so might as well get them changed instead of trying to fix it. I know Mini will charge £300+ for a pair, so looking for options instead of a like for like replacement. I've searched around the usual suspects but can't find the same tyre, unless the RE050A ONLY comes in runflat in which case they all are? I don't think that's the case though. Here are my questions:
- Should i go with paying through the nose at MINI?
- Can i get the RE050 RFT's anywhere other than MINI?
- Should i buy a different tyre, in which case what ones?
- The fronts are ok, as I replaced them not too long ago, so keen to replace 2 and put the new ones on the front. Sensible?

Any other suggestions welcome

My second point, since I bought the car just over 4 years ago I've been keen to get a diffuser on it. I never got round to it, but since recently deciding not to replace it but to keep it for another couple of years, I'm thinking of doing it again. Are the ones you can buy on ebay any good, or should I stick to getting them from the official places instead?

Thanks for any advice
Ant

On the tyres, a runflat fan here so I would replace it with the same brand. My local MINI dealer is always happy to price match the lowest quote I find (I always use Asda Tyres www.asdatyres.co.uk to find the cheapest quote, yes the supermarket!), Iíve replaced all the tyres on my MINIs using my local dealer this way.

Thanks, I've had a look on there and getting the same as I get elsewhere - the tyres I have are listed but no mention of them being runflats. If it did say that then I'd be on to something, but I suspect they won't be pricematched as these ones aren't (i think).

Are these runflats? If not, where can I get a quote on the runflat version of that tyre?

That should be and it is shown as a BMW recommended tyre. Hereís the price promise from MINI offering to price match on recommended tyres:

I changed the front tyres on my Countryman at the beginning of last month and the my dealer happily price matched.

Thanks for the help, i'll give MINI a call at lunchtime and see what they can do. Those T's&C's look like a minefield though! Quote in writing, no internet suppliers, only a MINI star marked tyre, available and in stock on the same day etc.

The quotes I've seen for the tyres seem to come in at just under £110 per tyre so as long as MINI can get somewhere near that then i'm sorted. Don't really want to pay £320 like last time though

Just say Cotswold Cheltenham price match tyres and if they donít play ball, take a trip to down the M4 to Cheltenham where you can see the new Ďhugeí dealership spread over five floors. They took 40 minutes to change my tyres whilst offering endless cold/hot beverages and snacks. Very friendly bunch of people and here some videos of the new place:
