Icon3 MINI Jargon - A Beginners Guide! - 29th April 2013, 10:43 PM

Managed to find this information from a thread on the old forum. It isn't up-to-date so please post if you know of something that needs adding/ changing

MINI Jargon - A Beginners Guide!

There is a lot of jargon and abbreviating used on MINI forums. Hopefully this will make things a little easier for people to understand just what we are talking about sometimes!

Model Codes:

Those new to MINI often wonder what people are on about when they talk about their cars as 'R50' or 'R56', so what do they mean?

R50 - 1st Generation Group Code (One, One Seven, One D, Cooper and Cooper Park Lane)
R52 - 1st Generation Group Code (One Convertible, Cooper Convertible and Cooper S Convertible)
R53 - 1st Generation Group Code (Cooper S, Cooper S Checkmate and Cooper S John Cooper Works GP Kit)
R55 - 2nd Generation Clubman Group Code (all models)
R56 - 2nd Generation Hatchback Group Code (all models)
R57 - 2nd Generation Convertible Group Code (all models)
R58 - 2nd Generation Coupe Group Code (all models)
R59 - 2nd Generation Roadster Group Code (all models)
R60 - 2nd Generation Countryman Group Code (all models)
F56 - 3rd Generation Hatchback Group Code (Cooper, Cooper D, Cooper S)

Models:

Often, rather than type the (often quite long!) full model name, the following abbreviations are used:

Hatchback
MO - MINI One
MOD - MINI One D
MC - MINI Cooper
MC JCW - MINI Cooper John Cooper Works
MCD - MINI Cooper D
MCS - MINI Cooper S
MCS JCW - MINI Cooper S John Cooper Works
MCS JCW GP - MINI Cooper S with John Cooper Works GP Kit (often just 'GP')

Convertible
MOC - MINI One Convertible
MCC - MINI Cooper Convertible
MCSC - MINI Cooper S Convertible
MCSC JCW - MINI Cooper S Convertible John Cooper Works

Clubman
MCO - MINI Clubman One
MCC - MINI Clubman Cooper
MCCD - MINI Clubman Cooper D
MCCS - MINI Clubman Cooper S
MCCS JCW - MINI Clubman Cooper S John Cooper Works

Colours:

Similarly, some will abbreviate the colour of their MINI to two or three letter abbreviations:

AB - Astro Black
B2 - Black II
BEP - Black-Eye Purple
BRG - British Racing Green
CR - Chili Red
KB - Cool Blue
CB - Cosmos Black
DS - Dark Silver
EB - Electric Blue
HC - Hot Chocolate
HO - Hot Orange
HB - Horizon Blue
HB - Hyper Blue
IB - Indi Blue
IY - Interchange Yellow
LB - Laser Blue
ZB - Lightning Blue
LY - Liquid Yellow
MB - Midnight Black
MY - Mellow Yellow
NR - Nightfire Red
OB - Oxygen Blue
PH - Purple Haze
PW - Pepper White
PS - Pure Silver
RG - Royal Grey
SG - Silk Green
24K - Solid Gold
SR - Solar Red
SB - Space Blue
SS - Sparkling Silver
TB - Thunder Blue
VR - Velvet Red
WS - White Silver

Followed by the roof colour:

/BC - Body Colour (although mostly the actual colour is repeated)
/B - Black
/PS - Pure Silver
/S - Silver
/W - White

So, for example, you get the following combinations:

CR/BC or CR/CR - Chili Red with Body Colour roof
CR/B - Chili Red with Black roof
CR/W - Chili Red with White roof

Options:

MINI, like all manufacturers, love to use acronyms for their options. MINI owners have also created a lot of their own.

AAC - Automatic Air Conditioning
ABS - Anti-Lock Braking System
AC - Air Conditioning
ASC+T - Automatic Stability Control + Traction
CAT1 - Thatcham Approved Category 1 Alarm
CAT2 - Thatcham Approved Category 2 Immobiliser
CBC - Cornering Brake Control
DSC - Dynamic Stability Control
EBD - Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
EHPAS - Electro-Hydraulic Power-Assisted Steering
EPAS - Electronic Power-Assisted Steering
HPAS - Hydraulic Power-Assisted Steering
ID - Smart Airbags
LSD - Limited-Slip Differential
MFSW - Multi-Function Steering Wheel
MMS - MINI Mobility System
OBC - On-Board Computer
PAS - Power-Assisted Steering
PDC - Park Distance Control
RFI - Run Flat Indicator
SS - Sports Suspension
SS+ - Sports Suspension Plus

Colloquialisms:

The MINI Community have also adopted a few of their own terms when talking about our cars, some of which may not be familiar to newer members.

1st Gen - 1st Generation Hatchback (2001-2006) or 1st Generation Convertible (2004-2008)
2nd Gen - 2nd Generation Hatchback (2006 - Present) or 2nd Generation Convertible (2009 - Present)
Dooper - MINI Cooper D
Dubman - MINI Clubman Cooper D
Facelift - 1st Generation Hatchbacks manufactured from July 2004
Works - Any MINI fitted with a John Cooper Works Tuning Kit

FJCW - Factory John Cooper Works

So now you know!

The above is by no means an extensive list, so if you think of any others please let us know.

a pulley is what the belt goes round, on a supercharged engine reducing the size of the pulley makes it spin faster, when it spins faster it forces more air into the engine = more power.

there are other pulley`s, i have an enlarged crank pulley, it does the same as above.

look on the left hand end of your engine, you`ll see some "wheels" these are your pulley`s
