Icon10 Ben's Cooper S JCW Look-a-like - 13th April 2013, 09:22 AM

As tM is back online, I am showing off my pride and joy again

I bought a 2002 R50 Cooper back in Sept 2011 time.

After having a R56 as a courtesy car for a few days I wanted to upgrade - so the search started.

I originally saw a Black Cooper S Cabbie on the Cherished site and so I drove down one evening after work whilst they were closed to have a quick nosy at it. Back in the corner was this white thing that caught my eye that I hadn't noticed online.

The very next day I rang my local dealership to have it bought up for me and went along that afternoon and bought it

Had it a matter of weeks and one day whilst hoovering it out I had the engine running from just moving it when I noticed the engine making a weird noise. Booked it in and they took it back a week later to diagnose. Whipping around in a MINI ONE for a few days (back to basics driving ha). The dealer kept me updated throughout the process which took longer than they first thought and about a week later I finally got a phone call to say it was ready. Not really sure what was wrong with it, but it had a whole new engine

After that I just enjoyed it for a few months going on little adventures and putting the private plate on it (not related to my name at all )

Realised that it looked like an RC car with the massive aerial so got a stubby one as a pressy. Much better looking than the massive one.

Drove back past the dealer one day and nearly got suckered into buying this - was sold by the time I made a decision just to check out the how the figures would add up.

The next thing was purchasing a LED bulb set from a guy on totalMINI and set about installing that in the dark.

I used him through all of the bad weather we had to get to work and I have to say it was much, much better than I was expecting!

I then went and debadged the rear and removed the stripes from the bonnet scoop. Thought about getting rid of the stripes completely but decided to just to remove the scoop parts.

And that leaves up pretty much to where it stands now. I haven't really done much as I loved how it came. I salute the previous owner for speccing it up for me and taking the hit on depreciation

No I'm not going unfortunately. I forgot about it and planned something else and it is a bit of a long trek for me from South Somerset
