Default Dooper with a hiccup? - 13th July 2017, 10:51 AM

Hi everyone,

Recently bought a 2009 Dooper. Not bad considering I'd set my heart on a S Type Jag and they were the only cars I'd been test driving. Hadn't driven a Mini since the day I passed my test many years ago. Always liked the look of them, but never thought I'd ever own one. Anyway, I saw it, drove it, bought it and love it to the point I'm glad I didn't buy a Jag.

However, just lately it's developed a bit of a problem. When changing gear - 1st to 2nd, 2nd to third and so on, it has a bit of a hicup/hesitation before picking up. I'm talking about normal driving here, not booting it. Although, if I do give it a few extra revs I don't notice this bit of a lurch.

There are no warning lights on and the car came with a full service history and has been looked after. Any idea's as this hesitation is becoming annoying.

Hi and welcome to tM. I've come across this before, for a quick win either try changing your brand of diesel by opting for premium, if that doesn't work your EGR valve needs a good clean.

Hi zf44 and thanks for the reply. From your advice I now suspect it's the ERG valve as I only use Shell V power diesel. I'll have my local garage take a look at it and get it cleaned and hopefully that will cure the problem.

That's ok, I'm a fan of the Shell V-power diesel too and I would get through a number of tank fills to see how you get on. Cleaning the EGR won't be cheap and if it it is really clogged they may recommend a full replacement with franchise dealers charging up to 500 to carry out this work.
