I'd try to get a newer F series model from 2014 with high miles but they are at least 7.5k so maybe not!

You'll get 50ish mpg on the motorway from a 1.6 diesel

Look for one with good spec as there are plenty of basic spec ones around unfortunately

Show us some examples if you find some and we can tell you what we think

Also check number plate online at its mot history see if any advisories etc

For your budget, I say source a 2011 onwards second generation r56 model, these 1.6 diesel engines were built by BMW. The previous 1.6 diesel (2007 to 2010) were the Peugeot/Citroen engines which suffered from turbo issues.

There was a revision to the range with cosmetic tweaks and the engine upgrade in Sep 2010.

Diesel models which had the Peugeot/Citroen engines had the silver trims on the steering wheel and dash like this....

Models with the BMW diesel engine had the interior silver trims replaced with black like this....

Also to note on the BMW engines, manual models have the 1.6 while the auto have the more powerful 2.0 block.

Yeah that looks good as well...so I presume the mpg is no where near the figures they quote of 60 mpg around town ie urban? And thanks for the help.

You will definitely not get 60mpg around town. I get about 40 mpg around town in my F56 2014 Cooper D

Go for as new as you can afford
