Default Radio query - 4th February 2018, 06:01 PM

Hi,

hope somebody can help as I've googled but can't find the answer.

I have a 2013 Cooper D Convertible that half the buttons on the radio have stopped working on. Removed to replace with after market model and can't find out what three of the existing cables that are connected are.

In the attached picture of the back of the radio I've found that the black one is the radio aerial which I've connected and works but don't know what the green. yellow and white ones are - anybody know please?

And was going to place the gps receiver for the after market radio on dash and run wire through to new head unit and have found this small covered circuit on the dash (see attached picture)

again - anybody know what this is please?

Hoping somebody can point me in the right direction for both questions :-)

Struggling to find an explanation on those radio connectors too but the circuit you have on top of the dash is the climate control sensor. Iíll persevere on those connectors.

many thanks for the clarification on the climate control

Thinking about the possible connections for the radio I'm wondering if the white one is from the usb connection at the bottom of the dash (as the plug appears to be split in to 4 pins)? which would maybe leave the other two as the DAB aerial and the AUX input or possibly from the steering column microphone for the handsfree?

I think I need to find a wiring diagram for the radio main connector so I can eliminate the items that get connection through there and see what's left (but still need to work out which colour is which :-()

Thanks again!

that's not dis-similar to the model I'm installing as an after market upgrade and I then have a DAB+ unit as an optional extra to go with it. I'm hoping one of the wires I'm trying to identify will be the DAB aerial which I'll connect. I's also connect the white one which I think is the USB input if I can find a cable with an appropriate adapter - will first use a meter across the white one to the usb plug at the bottom of the dash to see if that is what it is.

Thanks again for your help and efforts,

Hi...

You don’t need to know any of this!

I have changed out many units and it’s easy when you know how the installers do it! A bit of a cheat really but it’s so easy.

In the link below follow your Mini through the easy menus until you find the unit you have (either the Mini boost or the Mini wave cassette I believe in your year) select the single or double din unit you have by make then everything you need is listed there..... you can even get steering wheel volume etc to work with aftermarket units!

If you have any issues ring them directly they are so helpful...... they do a plug and play kit for pretty much every marque. A great company and it’s so easy to fit your own head unit with their interfaces.

F60 Cooper S All4 auto. Thunder grey with a lot of gloss black and very little chrome. Chilli, Media, Tech, XL, LEDís, pano roof, black 19ís, black leather, black stripes, black roof, black rails (I like black)....pretty much all options ticked - already regret the ones that are missing.

Hi 7Head,

thanks for the link but there's nothing on there that works for the interfaces I'm after and actually the site only has bits to go with a standard 1-din or 2-din unit whereas the mini has this strange 1-din and combined speedometer unit.

The white connector with 4 pins is definitely usb and I've found an adapter cable for that to plug into the back of the new unit. Just the yellow and green plugs I need to work out which is the dab aerial and which is the AUX input I think.

Thanks for your help and suggested link though :-)
