Default Software and Alloys - 10th June 2018, 08:48 AM

Morning All,

New to the mini owning world, two weeks in and canít remember when I enjoyed a car so much, brilliant.

Sofware: Mini offer a software upgrade at around the £120 mark but couldnít really advise on what it delivered apart from not including a map update...I assume this would not update the user interface as I have seen on a 2011 model....anyone know?

Alloys: they have been curbed by the previous owner and Mini quote 150+VAT to refurb, more costly as they are diamond cut apparently. Any tips on other refurb options/costs?

Couple of pics of my smile making Mini.

150 for the set or each alloy?
You can get your alloys back to new condition for about £65 elsewhere

The software upgrade I'm pretty sure won't upgrade your version to the newer interface

I run @newminilondon on Instagram!

Before :R50 MINI One Moonlight Black (Pepper)
+ 2 Audi TT MK2s in between.

Get your alloys powdercoated instead. Don't get them done through your MINI Dealer. There are plenty places that can refurb alloys for much less. Example I used to have a Audi TT with 19 inch alloys (diamond cut). Locally company powdercoated all 4 in dark grey for £280. Powdercoat is far more durable than diamond cut.

Software Update - I did mine yesterday. Downloaded and put on a usb stick. Doesn't upgrade NAV but does the other stuff and its free. I found a link where you put in your VIN and it gave me a file to download.

But you have a 3rd gen right? F56? Might be different as the OP has a 2nd gen with different systems

Out of interest anyway what upgrades did you get by updating it?

Do you know what software version your on now?

Yeah. I realise that but the OP can put the VIN in and see if there is anything for their car. Everything looks the same on mine. However, I assume that some bugs will have been sorted. I always updating things - phone, TV etc😀

Thanks for the info, £150 per alloy was the quote....+VAT!

Great suggestion on the powder coat, will check out some costings but I have to say I really like the style of the alloys and not sure a silver coat would quite stand out so much. Will check other places for refurb costs.

Tried the software link, VIN will not work so checked with Mini main dealer who confirmed it is for mini connect and not this age of car; I am not sure I have the software version screen you have on your display.

Yeah you won't have that software that's for the F series models (2014+)

Dealers can generally make sure you do have the latest software though for about £30 some are more helpful than others. Contact Cotswold MINI or Stratford MINI they both in my opinion are very helpful

I believe on the newer models (2014 onwards) you can download "over the air" but I read one person did it and it took hours! Not heard of anyone else do it
I don't think there are ever any big changes in them anyway

When is your next service? Are you taking it to MINI?

Will give Cotswold Mini a try, thanks for the info. Next inspection service is due Sept, only at 29k miles, so it could all wait and have it done at the same time I guess....I was going to use my local mini in Bristol but perhaps Cotswold could offer better/cheaper service.
