Default Hello - 13th November 2017, 12:23 PM

Hi Guys,

New to Mini here, last week we picked up my wife's Countryman Cooper SD 2014 on 24k miles,so far we are really enjoying the car.

I am looking to make a few changes to the car, the first being that i would like to install the two spotlights on the grill but i am having a hard time trying to work out if i need a new grill, mini parts department tell me that i will but when i look online i can find loads of pictures of Minis with lights fitted on what looks to be the same grill as mine please can somebody help me with this?

My Grill...

Same Grill but with lights?....

Welcome to tM. Ideally, to save time and effort you can purchase specially adapted grilles, which look exactly the same as a conventional grille but with the lower slots missing to accommodate the brackets, but there are suppliers of spotlights out there who provide instructions on how to adapt your current grille. An example below:

Also, MINI have introduced LED spotlights alongside the conventional halogen type. Contact our site sponsor, Cotswold MINI, for a quote.

Thanks for the response, I have had look at the link and this is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for but I notice that it says “WILL NOT FIT S / SD MODELS”

I thought that this might be because of the cuts needing to made in the Grille but notice that it states “YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE TO SMALL SLOTS IN YOUR EXISTING GRILLE TO FEED THE BRACKETS THROUGH - EASY TO DO AND INSTRUCTIONS SUPPLIED”

Do you know the reason that the kit in the link wouldn’t fit the SD Model?

Thanks

Ah! I didn’t spot that. Fitting spot lights on the Cooper S and SD requires a shaped bracket to raise above the front bumper scoop while the Cooper models don’t require any special brackets as they don’t have the scoop. Some further videos where the first video shows the gaps in the grille to allow the bracket to come through and the second video shows an alternative installation to secure the lights through the bumper scoop itself.

When I had my 2012 Countryman SD (in Royal Grey/Black), I had spots like those on the Red R60 in your post Stu4rt.

I took delivery of it in March 2012, and I was told that it was the first R60 in Ireland with spots. The salesman tried to talk me out of getting them, so I got a deal on the price. He did agree that the spots really finished off the front end.

I will need to see if I have any pics, but all I have will be on the thread I hand:
Hank - my 2012 Countryman SD
