Default JCW Roadster road test - 19th July 2013, 10:45 PM

Looking forward to taking a JCW Roadster for a test drive on Saturday. Not driven a MINI since I let go of my Cooper S Convertible a couple of years ago, and having started to miss open top driving, I thought I'd check out the Roadster, which wasn't around when I bought my car. Certainly it's far more suited to my needs, in that it has a decent boot and only two seats. The back seats in my convertible never saw a human bum and the boot was pitiful. I also hated the overly complicated roof of the convertible - too many things to go wrong - which they did. The Roadster's soft top seems suitably simple in comparison.

Hopefully the car I will be testing won't have the optional Sport Suspension, because I don't think our roads are good enough to justify this in a daily driver, but it will be my first time in a MINI with runflat tyres, which I believe are compulsory on the JCW.

Normally I'd pray for some sunshine so that I can put the top down, but I don't really think that will be necessary at the moment!

Evening Paul!

I'd be interested in your assessment of the JCW roadster too....

I think you'll have fun, I had one for 4 days last yr albeit a cooper S and that was fun so the JCW should blow you away.

How tall are you Paul? I found the raked windscreen top edge way too low for my tastes even with seat on lowest position so will be interested to read your views

My Mrs has a JCW Roadster, I think it's a brilliant car!

She loves it too, the road noise is massive on the motorway with the roof up, and for some reason the passenger gets blown about even with the windbreak up, plus she's now developed muscles after having to do the 1st/last bit of the roof. Other than that, it's all good! Saying that, it's going back in in a few weeks as the roof bangs up and down whilst in the down position

The pop and bangs and brilliant, esp with the roof down - I regularly get 'It sounded like I shot someone earlier'

I thought they had sports suspension as standard with the Chili Pack?

This is hers
