Default Mini Connected With Android? - 1st June 2013, 06:57 AM

I wasn't a member on the old forum but I'm guessing this came up on there?

I'll be getting my Mini in July and it will have Mini Connected, thing is I don't have an iPhone and as I really do not like them I'd rather stick to Android.

I've read that there is an update due that will enable the system to work with Android possibly in July, I've also read through a few 'work arounds' that enable the system to work; is anyone using Connected with Android or does anyone have any further info on the upgrade?

There's quit a bit of info out there like this:

"BMW ready " - SDK for third-party apps. Android apps coming

I've seen a few reports specific to Mini but can't find them at the mo.

Lowlight i was the same as you ,i want to stick with my android phone so i looked around for a solution till BMW bring out an android app. I use an ipod touch 4th gen and tether it to my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone , making my phone the wi-fi hotspot . It works like a dream !! I leave my ipod in the car too . You can pick a second hand ipod up for about 80 on ebay. You get all the mini connected functions except obviously the phone part but im sure your phone is connected by bluetooth for calls anyway.. If you get stuck or want to ask me anything feel free to PM me .

Would I still need the Y cable with this set up? It's got the Media pack so it would be nice to have it all tucked away in the armrest

Yes use the Y connector. I have the phone holder thingy behind the gearstick my ipod sits on this. All very neat. Plus make sure you get the Y cable without a little box on it when u pick your car up. They gave me that one, it's not the right one. Had to post the right one out. Charges your ipod touch up too.

I've got an Ipod Touch (2nd gen but should do the job nicely) I'll get a cable when I pick the Mini up if they'll throw it in for nowt, if not I assume the ones on eBay will work?

I have a Samsung Galaxy s and I'm sure I have a PAYG sim card around the house somewhere so I guess I'm nearly there.

I'll flog the Touch as soon as I can use Android so it won't cost anything in the long run.

I couldn't find genuine cables on ebay, but if you ordered the full media connect pack the cable should come with it. Definitely make sure it's in the car on delivery. Does your galaxy normally have a pay monthly chip in it if yes I'd use that some PAYG chips don't include data, saying that Tesco payg does.
If your galaxy S allows itself to become a wifi hotspot your nearly there. I'd check on the mini connected compatability website to make sure the 2nd gen works.
You know where I am if u need me ;-)
