Default Help Daytime running lights - 14th September 2013, 10:56 AM

I have a new countryman with side lights fitted where the spot lights would normally go. I would like the new daytime running lights fitted in place of the sidelights but have been told by mini dealers this is not possible unless spot lights are already fitted at the factory as they are a direct replacement for spot lights. Does anyone know if it would be possible to to fit these thanks

Anything can be fitted it's just a matter of money. I'm not familiar with the Countryman but I can only assume you have blanks where the fog lights would normally be. If this is the case i'm sure they could be fitted and then coded to work. Coding costs about 70 from memory.

By spot lights do you mean fog lights. Does you're CM have sides/fogs or only sides.

As does changing your MINI every 6 months.

I think (but don't know for sure) that you could fit the DRLs and although the light fitting would have the foglight element in them, the foglight would never work since you don't have the foglight wiring on your car.

But the DRL instructions do say they are only for cars with foglights so that'll be why the dealer is telling you you cannot have them fitted.

The problem is that someone is going to have to pay up for these lights and try fitting or have them fitted to a non-foglight car before we know for sure if it works. And that's quite a large gamble.

You could try asking the dealer again, making it clear to them that you know the foglights won't work.

????

Fog lights are part of pepper pack etc, but fogs are nothing to do with dipped beam

I think he means the sidelights that are on in the fog lights whenever the headlights are on.

I mean the lower circular light cluster house the dipped beam and foglights!! My wife's MINI first has the lights but not the fogs! Is this what the OP is asking about?!

Yes, but you confused Dave by calling them dipped beam. The dipped beam are the main headlights - which are full beam when the light stalk is pushed forward. In normal night time operation all headlights are dipped beam. The lights in the fog light housing are sidelights.
