Default De chroming - middle of car trim help - 8th April 2017, 07:05 PM

Hello all - im in the middle of de chroming my r53 s, I've got as far as headlight surrounds and mirror covers but I'm stumped as to how to tackle the petrol cap and trim that runs all around the middle of the car and wondered in anyone has experience of doing this?
Do I try and pick out the chrome piece from the rubber or will i not get it back in?
Or - do I masking tape and polythene the whole car and do it that way?

And regarding the petrol cap can I remove that/get it back on easily?

Just a note I'm not and don't want to use plasti dip etc I'm using the car colour so rubbing everything down first etc

Any help with this is very very appreciated 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

You can buy cut black vinyl kits to cover the belt line - they work. Painting the belt line is a bit of a no go really.

I can't for the life of me remember how to get the fuel tank flap off. I have a feeling you need to take the wheel arch liner out and there's something up there. It's probably a case of keying the flap with some scotch bright and getting some metal etch primer on it - I'm sure it's polished metal and not a chrome effect coating.

Pereonally I'm not a fan of the S flap - I'd get rid and replace it with the One/Cooper door.

I bought a belt line dechrome kit from eBay, I've not fitted it all yet - just a small trial piece and it looks good. Just search for it on eBay.

Can't help with the cap as mine is body colour coded thankfully on the CM.
