Default R56 Xenon headlight - 17th May 2016, 02:26 PM

Hi guys,

I need some help identifying what type of headlight I have after this happening on my birthday.

Is my headlight Bi-xenon or Adaptive? Or are they both one and the same? Why the black insert?

I rang BMW for a price for a replacement - 679!! I can see new ones on eBay for 400 albeit a Magnetti Morelli one but still stronge money. I am hoping to pick a used one up on eBay but that's a waiting game. Part no. 0 301 265 384 00

Anyway, I have replaced the lense to get by just now but the issue I have now is when on manual the headlights aim straight but on auto the right headlight sits to the right. Having never doubted the headlights alignment before I don't know if this is normal or not. If I turn the steering to the right, the right headlight only moves a small amount. This could be normal to stop on coming vehicles from being blinded but I just don't know as it is already aiming quite a bit to the right.

Having removed the light from the car does it need reprogramming?

Manual- | |
Auto - | /

If anyone is out tonight or later in the week can you spare a few mins to check your lights if they are the same?

Sorry for all the questions but I figured this was the best place to ask.

Thanks in advance
Daryl

I believe if you have Bi-Xenons, which these are, they are also adaptive headlights, which you'll be able to tell if you turn the steering wheel. As you said, the light turns slightly.

I don't think the lights need reprogramming, its generally just plug and play. My lights are straight on Auto btw. I think you're gonna need a new one bud. Ask around on here, I've some sell recently.

Yeah the plan was always to get another 1 as a couple of the indicator fixings are cracked and I managed to rub the chrome finish off the top of housing.

I'll keep my eye on the for sale section. The drivers side headlights with the small black insert seem quite rare.

Cheers.

I have a set of xenons if you want the drivers side one. You will have to change the bulb over and the ballast off yours but that is quite a simple task as the ballast just plugs in on the bottom. It's a genuine MINI part I will check the part numbers on them if you like. They were taken off my R56 JCW when I upgraded to black line lights.

Looks like the part number is different but I have two. Not sure if they would work or not.

I spoke to my local dealer who quoted me 679, the parts guy wasn't sure why it had the black insert and wouldn't tell me the BMW part number.

0 301 265 684 00 is the number on my light.

Just a quick update.

The car passed its Mot with the original unit with the replacement lense no issues. I have noticed when in Auto mode the right headlight centres itself after the car starts to move which I find odd compared to my previous car with Bi xenons but having not noticed before this could be normal for the mini.
