Evening everyone,
I want to do the normal mods to my R53 cooper s such as 15% reduced pulley and sparks, induction kit, intercooler, camshaft. I'm not looking to remap it yet though so I guess injectors would be out the question at the moment.
In what order would you guys recommend I do it in?

Cheers.

Brakes. Suspension and wheels. Power.

So how much would a 15% reduction pulley give? Has anyone done a before and after on a dyno?
I'm just wondering what a "stage 1" would net - say a pulley and remap but no intercooler. Would it be about 10bhp?
Also wondering what anyone thinks about lightened flywheels , although they don't increase overall bhp much are they worth the fitting?
Love the mini bytheway, it's a hoot - after stuff to make it more fun day to day not 1/4 mile stats.

You don't need a remap for just a pulley. ECU will adjust itself.

You'll gain 15-20bhp, 10lb/ft.

If you haven't any other performance mods a lightweight flywheel is a waste of time and money.

What mods does the car have currently?

Unmodified Cooper S, supercharged.
I'm asking about mods because it needs unfun stuff doing too like oil leaks and probably clutch.
So a 15% reduction pulley - no remap, induction/exhaust or intercooler mods - gives 15 bhp? Sounds good value.

From curiosity, does anyone know about the maths of this please?
I was thinking a 15% reduction in diameter would make the supercharger turn 18% faster...would this mean 18% more boost? If it does, then I'd guess the supercharger gain would be 18% more. So if a Cooper makes 135bhp and a Cooper S 170bhp, I'd gain 18% of 35bhp i.e. about +7bhp?
I know the maths is an oversimplification but are the numbers about right?

The only thing right in what you say is the charger will spin 18% faster.

Cooper doesn't have 135bhp.

Cooper + Supercharger = melted engine, not a Cooper S, way more to it than that.

The mods I've mentioned have been done time and time again over the years and although the results vary car to car, the gains are overally worth while.

Ah well, got one thing right.
I know the Cooper S has differences (intercooler, bigger injectors maybe too? Different map, maybe cam?) but I was just wondering how much of the extra grunt can be attributed to boost, so I thought about the Cooper as it's a 1.6 too - and smaller pulley would increase the boost. Anyway, I'll poke about in the interweb for answers thanks for the pointers.

Cheers.

I would wait and do it all in one hit, with injectors and a map. Boom it's all done and would likely save on labour costs vs doing in stages/progressively.

Do it right do it once. 👍
