Default 17% Supercharger pulley - 10th March 2014, 03:42 PM

Hi guys,

I am going to buy a 17% pulley within the next week and thought I would ask you guys/girls which you would recommend. The 2 I am torn between is the ALTA version which is available from Lohen or the KAVS version as a full kit as shown here: KAVS Motorsport Supercharger Kits

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I was set on an ALTA one but when I phoned the mini specialist they recommended the KAVS one.

Thanks in advance

Craig

yep go for kavs, quality is good, again you can get in touch via minitorque for a better deal.

the alta crank pulley is sh1te, so just going off that i wouldnt have the SC pulley either, i have both from kavs with no issues.

if your doing it diy, get the cravenspeed puller, you can sell it for near what you pay so in real terms its not dear.

and no, you cant have a friggin link!

Shall I get this with the alternator pulley or is this not necessary?

erm, i think i would only get that one if i had a new alternator going on, the alternator is going to spin faster and bushes wear faster etc, will it make a huge difference to performance, im doubtful, maybe on an all out track beast wanting to squeeze every ounce out?? i think its a bit overkill for a street car.

just my opinion, i may well be very wrong and its the best thing since the invention of the wheel!

Thanks for your opinion. I think I will just get the KAVS 17% pulley with the reduced belt and new spark plugs. Another quick question if you don't mind; is it necessary to buy a tensioner stop from somewhere in case the auxillery belt snaps or not?

Had a quick look and it looks like an underdrive pulley for the alternator, so it'd go a little slower?

Pete.

Ah right. Thats not what I desire ha, i want it to go faster haha. Thanks for everyones opinion. So is a tensioner stop necessary? And will the ALTA one from lohen work with a KAVS pulley?

true, my bad, its for when you hjave done the SC pulley, the alternator runs faster, the alternator pulley brings it back to normal. could be a good idea if everything is in bits already.

as for the alta tensioner stop, some dont think they work, some think they rattle, either way, this happens when the belt snaps, the tensioner slams into the crank and makes a mess, if a 22 tensioner stop helps stop this, i`ll keep mine on!

I've got a 17% Alta and the Alta protector (which doesn't rattle). If I was doing it all again, I'd get the KAVS version of the pulley, because you can swap sizes. The Alta pulley puller also worked fine and was quickly resold. I've never heard of any alternator failures though. I also reckon that if you want to get the most of out your 17%, you should have an Orranje stealth CAI and a decent top mount intercooler from Airtec, GRS or the GP version, and a decent manifold is a good idea. After that, then the established path is bigger injectors, camshaft and a custom remap.

And don't forget the brakes!
