Untitled 9 Copy Oil filler cap stuck - 17th April 2017, 03:15 PM

I was topping up the oil in my 2009 JCW yesterday when the filler cap stuck when I replaced it. Trying to find a solution I came across your site. It seemed that several people had had the same problem but nobody had the whole solution. So here are my words of wisdom. I followed one poster's advice and used brute force to get the cap back off. Namely, I protected the cap with a rag and then used an adjustable wrench to 'click' the cap back off. Actually, it didn't take much force. When I looked at the cap I saw a design flaw. The cap is actually directional but it can be replaced in the wrong position and it will not close or come back off. To put the cap on properly turn the cap a quarter turn so the oil can icon is pointing upwards then place it into the nozzle. Turn the cap a quarter turn clockwise and it will click closed and the icon will be horizontal (the oil can is sitting on its base) if you are looking at the engine from the front of the car. Sounds like a minor (Mini) problem but if you are facing it, you may be a bit worried about damaging something. So there you go.
