Default Things don't work like they used to! - 13th August 2017, 06:41 PM

Folks,
I had to disconnect the battery on cooper s 04 as went flat after standing a while. Anyway after charging and putting the battery back the tailgate now fails to open on the outside handle. It will open manually from inside under the seat. All fuses checked fine and everything else works except, wierdly, the internal fan and interior lights also have stopped working.
Alarm, central locking issue? reset?
Any ideas please
Mick

Are you sure the battery is ok? A battery that's on its last legs can cause some weird faults. Maybe going completely flat has killed it.

So, update.

The battery going flat was a consequence, as it turns out, because:

Whatever muppet put my lovely cooper together in the factory didn't route the loom well enough where it passes under the ABS pump on its way into the engine bay and it chafed through causing a bad short with accompanied burning and melting of the loom through the whole length of the car as it used the brake pad wear warning wire as its short to earth.

Loads of stripping out of interior ( now know how it all comes apart), loom repair patching, testing, clearing fault codes and nearly two weeks with a sparky (top bloke) and 500 later she is back home.

Not an experience I wish to repeat!
