Hi all,

Wondering if you can help me! 100% at the end of my tether with my Mini.

it's a 2009 1.6 cooper.

It's an electrical fault to which I have no idea where to start.

I can unlock and lock the car using the fob no problem, the power button lights up also when i get in as usual however. when i insert the key I get absolutely nothing, no lights at all unable to get the steering lock off.

I've read about the battery being faulty which i've replaced.

Does anyone have any further suggestions aside from setting fire to it?

Any help greatly appreciated

Don’t set fire to it!

It could be your security immobiliser has been triggered and isolated your steering lock. Did it ever start after you replaced the main car battery? If not, did you code the new battery? If it did start it may be an issue with the alternator not charging your main battery. The other obvious question is have you tried using the spare key?

Hi!

Thanks for coming back to me, it's with our family friend at the moment, so I can't rule out that it wasn't coded, but hasn't ran since the battery has been replaced.

Tried using both keys, both to no luck.

I've read things about CAS units? however my technical know-how is limited.

Thanks!
Damon

I would focus on the battery first, BMWs/MINIs are troublesome if they suffer from low battery charge. To see if your batter requires coding, follow the instructions in this thread:

New Battery

On the CAS, if that fails you wouldn’t be able to open the doors remotely.

Let us know how you get on with the battery.
