Default BMW/MINI UK Subscription Service - 10th April 2018, 09:14 PM

This scheme launched in the US last week and has now hit our shores. For a monthly subscription (covers the cost of the car, full maintenance, servicing, insurance, road tax, breakdown cover) you have access to a number of models to use in either the BMW or MINI range. If you find the model you are using unsuitable you can immediately upgrade or downgrade or cancel your selection in any month.

Cars on offer on the scheme start with a MINI Cooper 3-Door Hatch and a BMW 116d Sport and rise through the 2 Series Coupé and X1 up to 4 Series Coupé and 5 Series Saloon and Touring models. Other available vehicles include 2 Series Active Tourer, 2 Series Convertible, 3 Series Saloon and Touring, 4 Series Convertible, X3 and i3.

Pricing for a MINI Cooper 3-door Hatch starts at £562 for a monthly ownership option, while the same time period for a BMW 116 Sport is £778. In contrast one month of BMW 520d Saloon ownership is £1,076. A full breakdown of pricing is available on the Drover website (https://www.joindrover.com/bmw-mini).

Over £1000 to rent a mundane 5 series for 1 month - I know people on Instagram go crazy for a badge but that’s a ludicrous amount of money for a punter.

What a total waste of money!

2 years of this for a Cooper would pay for a nearly new basic hatch!

I'd let someone borrow my MINI for a month for half that lol

Hi all.

Full disclosure - I work at Drover (don't hate on me please!)

Interested to read your thoughts and that you feel pricing is off.

We made a comparison to getting a mini on a PCP deal (see article here)

Does that change the thinking at all? Happy to hear any feedback!

Thanks

Alec

How does the insurance aspect of it work? Is the rental price tailored to the buyer regarding NCB etc?

Joindrover/Alec - Your article says nearly new - is that 1 month old or 11 months old?

Small refundable deposit - how much?

I definitely think there is a market for what your offering though
I know of a few people who's got pcp deals who's had them less than 12 months who have changed there mind or what to change car

Are you on Instagram ?

Hi guys.

Insurance: Currently there is one price for insurance (£94/m) for everyone and on all cars (so long as 25 and over). That's a great price if in your 20s and in a city in a nice car - not so good if older and in the country in a cheap car. In the future we'd like to split this out so that better drivers don't get put off.

Refundable deposit: It's £300 for most cars. It's more (£500) if the car value is high and/or you are under 25.

We don't have an amazing social presence at the moment - and don't have an instagram account. But again - in time we'll be improving this side of the business too.

Nearly new: We do everything from 1 month to 7 years. If you go on a car page - you'll see the year of the car. The idea is - since you are not responsible for maintenance - the importance of mileage and age of the car is slightly reduced.

To be honest, having looked at the cars - it looks more like a garage forecourt offering rentals on their stock to generate some income whilst it's advertised

It doesn't seem anything like PCP

This day and age social media is everything it's a bit odd if a company isn't on there!

Insurance = way too high unless your 20

Just looked at your website to be honest and not to be rude it's awful for individual customers
It's more aimed at business, using cars they can't sell ... doesn't sound like a place I would want to spend my money... just saying.
