I haven't come across what your on about, usually you have to take the old caps off and replace them with the new ones. But these sound like a great idea.
Any links?

I have fitted a set from ebay to a MINI in carbon fibre style for a friend. They stick to the existing Mirror caps with double sided sticky pads. The fit is not as flush at the edges as a full replacement cap but was not bad on the ones I saw and they are cheaper and easy to fit. They have been on the MINI a year or so now and still seem ok.
Something like this:

I Put Chrome Metal ones on my Corsa - They looked OK but there were gaps around the covers, the actual fit was tricky as well. I had to actually bend them in a few places to improve the fit. Personal opinion go for replacement caps - I did

I would go the extra distance and put "full" replacements on - IMHO they look so much better, and surely a MINI deserves the best!
