![]() We are pleased to announce the details for what will hopefully be an epic fund raising event, and also a very interesting Challenge! What we plan to do it drive a factory standard MINI Cooper Diesel from MINI UK Headquarters in Bracknell to John O'Groats! Thats 676 miles, or thereabouts! Sounds simple? Well we're going to try and get there on one tank, that's just 40 litres of Diesel!! ![]() To complete the challenge we're going to need to average over 76mpg, which might be do-able on the motorway, but how about on the smaller Scottish A-Roads? In truth, whether we make isn't the biggest goal, our primary objective is to raise funds for two fantastic charities! Breakthrough Breast Cancer is the benefactor selected by this years Charity Ball Committee. Their mission is to save lives through enabling and ensuring access to improvements in breast cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment. As many of you will also know, we recently lost a very valued forum member and friend to Leukaemia, so our second Charity is Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Andy, this is for you. So when is it happening? We're setting off on the evening of Thursday 31st March 2011 - the scary thing is that is just 59 days away! We will then drive through the night with a couple of strategic coffee stops, hopefully arriving in John O'Groats mid morning on Friday 1st April! Sleep will then be the order of the day, and we will set off southward bound again on Saturday 2nd April with our destination being the totalMINI Charity Ball in Northampton - hopefully having completed an epic challenge, and with two charities benefiting well from our efforts! Who is going? To give the Cooper D a chance of making it, I will be piloting the car on my own. Any more passengers would increase weight on board, and hamper our economy efforts. I'm even putting myself on a crash diet to help the cause! We will have a backup support vehicle being driven by Kev (Killerbyte), this will be carrying our luggage, supplies, and emergency fuel cans just in case the worst happens! Thanks to Kevs employers for the loan of one of their MINI ONEs to use as a support vehicle. Thank you also to MINI UK for agreeing to loan us a MINI Cooper Diesel ![]() How can I help? Well you can help us by donating to the cause! Our main page for donations can be found below: I'm also sending out emails to various companies, such as fuel companies for help with fuel costs, and other MINI related firms who might be willing to sponsor us. If you know anyone that might be able to help us with the challenge, provide sponsorship, or anything else, please drop me a PM or email me at info@totalmini.com. So, lets make this an epic fund raiser, and provide some much needed funds for these two fantastic charities. I will be keeping this thread updated with details as we progress, and you will be able to stay up to date with our journey progress on the day by the usual social media channels. Thank you everyone for your time, and thanks in advance for your donations. Jon To find out more about our two charities, please use the links below. Tracking Details... For those of you wishing to see where we are at any given time, I've created the following little web app which shows our current GPS position and also the latest Twitter conversation on the #dieselchallenge hashtag. I will turn on the GPS at the beginning of the event (don't need you all checking my whereabouts right now ) and this will update provided we have some form of internet access. Obviously, the further north and remote we get the more unlikely this will be but it's there anyway. ![]() Bookmark the following URL for later: totalMINI Diesel Challenge Tracker Last edited by Jon; 31st March 2011 at 12:26 PM. |

You will make it - I am living my One Diesel that I picked up last week. Compared to my Mini One Steptronic I had, I cannot believe the fuel economy.
Keep it steady. Ian |
